Important information

What should I bring?

Bottle of water, electrolytes and juices for hydration. Comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear with good traction. Hats, sunglasses and sunscreen. Personal hygiene products; toothbrush, toothpaste and facial wipes. The little things to make life more comfortable while camping and being out in nature.

Where do we meet for the tour?

Please meet your guide in the designated 'Guided Tours Loading Area' located outside and in front of The View Hotel. There is a flight of stairs that leads down to the paved loading area. Here, you will find two covered picnic tables with bench seating. Please arrive 10 minutes earlier.

Where is The View Hotel?

The View Hotel is located inside Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. This is the only hotel inside MVNTP. It is located next to the Visitors Center. When you are driving into the Tribal Park both buildings are on the top of the hill. The Visitors Center is on the left and The View Hotel is on the right.

Is there a fee to enter Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park?

Yes. It is $8 per person. This is paid upon entering the Tribal Park at one of two fee booths. Parks & Recreation only accepts credit cards. No cash is accepted. The park pass is valid for one day only.

Where do I park my vehicle?

There is plenty of parking for all vehicle sizes below the Visitors Center.

Are there bathroom stops and facilities on the tour?

There is one waterless open bathroom on Hunts Mesa, near the camp site. Hunts Mesa is very remote. It is acceptable to disappear behind a rock or a bush to take care of business.

What time do we operate on?

We operate on Mountain Daylight Time (MDT). The entire Navajo Nation does, even where tribal territory extends into the State of Arizona. So, please take notice when you are traveling to Monument Valley from parts of Arizona. Depending on the time of year, there may be a one hour time difference.

Are there opportunities for hiking?

Yes. There are many trails that traverse the cliffs of Hunts Mesa overlooking Monument Valley. You are welcome to explore these trails to find unique photographic angles and take in the scenery. Don't go off trail when possible and most importantly, do not step on cryptobiotic soils, lichens and mosses. These biological communities are fragile and essential to to health of the ecosystem.

What is the itinerary?

The drive up to Hunts Mesa takes on average 2 hours. Along the way there are several stops and opportunities for photos. Once on top of the mesa, you will have the chance to capture sunset from the western cliffs of Hunts Mesa. Afterwards, we head to camp for dinner. Your accommodations will be set up for you. In the morning you will catch sunrise from the eastern cliffs of Hunts Mesa. After sunrise we have breakfast, then we will start our descent from the mesa. Taking a different route off the mesa, we will visit Spider Arch (a double arch) in a remote sandstone canyon. There is an optional stop to visit Anasazi ruins along the way.
