Northern Arizona is famous for one-of-a-kind structures such as the Grand Canyon, Sedona’s red rocks and the pine-covered peaks in Flagstaff, but we say that you haven’t truly experienced Arizona without a trip to a place called Monument Valley. Monument Valley has something for everyone including destinations to stop at while you are traveling to our location.
If you would like to enhance your road-trip experience and see all the Navajo Nation has to offer, check out these five locations:
Navajo Museum Library & Visitor’s Center
The famed museum is dedicated to preserving the rich history and culture of the Navajo people that live within the land. Among the must-visits include the outdoor amphitheater, the on-site authentic hogan, an auditorium, a book store and a gift shop that’s filled with native displays.
Navajo Nation Botanical and Zoological Park
The zoological park houses animals that are at home in their natural habitats, complete with rock scenery and native vegetation. Most of the wildlife here is native to Navajo, and are a part of a dynamic exhibit that showcases the variety of plants and animals living within the land’s illustrious history and rich culture.
Bisti Badlands Wilderness Area
The wilderness area transports you back 65 million years to the time when the valley was filled with strange, soft clay formations, and the landscape experienced constant changes due to Navajoland summers and rainstorms. Monument Valley’s geologic beauty is in full display here, as are stories that tell the fall of the dinosaurs and the rise of humans.
Berland Lake stands high at more than 8,000 feet and is Monument Valley’s getaway within a getaway. Nestled comfortably in the Chuska Mountains and embraced by tall pines and grassy hills, those who love to fish will find the perfect spot for both warm and channel-water catfish.
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park
The tribal park is marked by sandstone sculptures that rise anywhere between 400 to more than a thousand feet. The scenic clouds and the overhead sun cast interesting shadows and play of light on the desert floor below. Visitors will be able to see the varied, rich colors of the valley in all its mysterious beauty.
